OUR STORY

Concern Foundation for cancer research was founded in 1968 by 15 Los Angeles couples upon learning their dear friend, Beverly Wolman (pictured right), was diagnosed with terminal cancer at the young age of 35.

Since Concern Foundation's inception over forty-five years ago, we have provided grants to over 700 gifted cancer researchers at major institutions locally, nationally, and around the world.  With $.95 of every dollar being given to research, over $55 Million has been raised and granted to making significant contributions that are moving us closer to our vision of conquering cancer.

Concern focuses on funding immunology (the biomedical branch of science that studies all aspects of the immune system) research for a wide variety of cancers. Immunology begs a fundamental question: What causes a person's natural immune system to break down and allow inactive cancer cells to become active? This question is as relevant today as it was in 1968. In Concern’s early years, immunology was long considered a woefully underfunded and untapped area of cancer research. Today, immunological research is at the forefront of potential life-saving vaccine developments, and great strides have been made with life-saving vaccines in relation to cancer. We believe the root cause of cancer lies within our genetic makeup, and that immunology research holds the key to a cure.
